I was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. City life is not a reflection of my passions and yet this is where my passions were birthed. From a young age I found myself exploring the arts by, for example, using huge nails found in my grandfather’s workshop to make a tiny tool for printing impressions on leatherwork! From a primary school age I made leather articles like the handbag which my sister still uses today.
Craftwork has always allowed fulfilment to develop within me. I perceive the world as being a work of art – a magnificent creation. I am grateful that I am blessed by being able to create works of art that other people take pleasure in. I believe that to develop arts and crafts is therapeutic – not only to the artist, but also to those who share their beauty and pleasure they offer.
Now that I am living in the beautiful Garden Route, still in South Africa, I enjoy the energy of the Sedgefield Saturday market! It has been said by many a traveller, that the Sedgefield market is one of the finest in the world. While my bonsais and sculptures are displayed at my stall, I have chatted with many enthusiasts who share their experiences. It is heart-warming to see a creation being carried off by a new owner to be nurtured and enjoyed elsewhere in the world! I love the phrase: “I am a part of everything I have met”. So my passions of sculpting, bonsai and
three-dimensional art forms have merged. |
